SafeSport
Swimming is a source of joy, fostering lifelong skills and values. Yet, like any sport, swimming poses potential risks, including misconduct. At USA Swimming and Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (FAST), we are unwavering in our commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and healthy environment for all members.
Misconduct Impact on Athletes
Misconduct, whether physical or sexual, can have profound consequences, impacting athletes' well-being and compromising their performance. It is crucial to address these issues promptly to uphold the values of our community.
Our Commitment to Safety
USA Swimming and FAST are dedicated to ensuring the welfare of our members. We understand that safety is a collective responsibility, shared by everyone involved in the sport, from the club to the national level.
Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP)
To reinforce safety standards, FAST has adopted the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP) by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. These policies set guidelines for interactions between adults and minor athletes, prioritizing safety.
Please familiarize yourself with MAAPP to understand its implications for the club, athletes, and families. Read our MAAPP here.
Adult Athlete APT Membership Requirement
Beginning September 1, 2023, all adult athlete members (ages 18 and over) must complete the Athlete Protection Training (APT) as a membership condition. Failure to complete the training within 30 days of September 1, 2023, will result in non-compliance.
SafeSport Certification for FAST Parents and Athletes
To achieve SafeSport certification, we ask FAST parents and athletes over 12 to watch the SafeSport videos: "SafeSport for Parents" and "SafeSport for Minor Athletes" on the USA Swimming website. The brief training takes approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
